South West Devon MP says face coverings are still important as restrictions ease
England's remaining coronavirus restrictions have been lifted overnight.
Social distancing and masks are no longer mandatory, although some shops and transport providers are still asking people to cover their faces.
In line with Government advice, GWR will expect people to wear a face covering when on board trains and throughout the station environment.
South West Devon MP Sir Gary Streeter said:
"I think it might have been wise to have said lets stick with face masks in public places as a matter of law for a three months period or something like that, to see how we go, we've got to be responsible and if we are we can see this through and get out of this dreadful tunnel and back into general freedom once again."
Some nightclubs in England even opened their doors on the stroke of midnight, as lockdown measures were being lifted.
Devon's care home providers have also said measures to control the spread of the virus, WILL remain in place in many homes across the county.
Lucy Bull from the Devon Care Home Collaboration said:
"For care workers the implications of catching it or developing symptoms are that they have to self isolate and that put's more pressure on the rest of the care team. There is also workforce implications and for all of us in the care sector those are all good reasons to keep the measure in place and minimise the risk."
