Arrest made after serious crash near Drake Circus

A man remains in hospital with serious injuries following a crash in Plymouth.

A car and motorcycle collided on Cobourg Street, near Drake Circus, yesterday (8 July).

A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, but has since been released under investigation.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said:

"At around 10.15am on Thursday 8 July 2021 emergency services were called to a serious road traffic collision on Cobourg Street, Plymouth. The collision involved a car and a motorcycle.

"The motorcyclist, a 51-year-old man from Plymouth, was taken to Derriford Hospital with serious head injuries where he remains.

"A 38-year-old man from Plymouth was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was later released under investigation pending further enquiries.

"Specially trained police officers attended the scene from the Alliance Roads Policing Team and the Serious Collisions Investigation Team.

"The road was closed whilst emergency services were in attendance and was reopened at around 6pm."

Anyone who witnessed the collision, particularly anyone with Dash Cam footage, are asked to contact the police on 101 quoting log number 336 of 8 July 2021.
