A major road in Torbay finally reopens at around 6pm tonight - ending months of misery for drivers.

Brixham Road has been shut since the start of January to help with building the Inglewood housing estate.

Torbay council had refused the estate - but were told they had to allow it when the developer appealed.

A spokesperson for Torbay Council said: "When the road is ready to open, the lights at Windy Corner will be reinstated and the lane closure will be lifted, as will the lane closure on Brixham Road by the Goodrington Road junction. The temporary traffic lights at the junction with Goodrington Road and Dartmouth Road will also be removed.

"As mentioned before, no works will be carried out on this road over the Easter Holidays. From mid April and through May landscaping, snagging and work to finish the pedestrian crossing will be carried out. On some of these days traffic management will be needed and when confirmed we will let you know when those days are.

"The planned works to improve the flow of traffic at Windy Corner junction and the junction with Brixham Road and Long Road will be taking place later this year, after the summer holidays. Traffic management will be needed for these and again, when the dates are finalised, we will let you know what this will look like.

"Persimmon would like to pass on their thanks to you - residents, businesses and the local community, for your patience during the road closure."
