18-year-old dies after falling from Hope Cove cliff

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed the teenager died following the incident on Friday afternoon

With a number of emergency services being called to the scene yesterday, Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed a teenager has died in Devon.

Devon and Cornwall Police say an 18-year-old died after falling from a cliff and her body was later recovered by rescue teams near Hope Cove in the South Hams district.

The teenager has been named locally as Keeleigh Plant, who attended Kingsbridge Community College.

In a statement by principle Tina Graham, they say: “On behalf of everyone at Kingsbridge Community College, we want to convey our sadness at this tragic event.

"Our immediate thoughts and condolences are with Keeleigh's family, friends and loved ones, and to the many students and staff whose lives she enriched throughout her time at KCC.

"The death of a child is a devastating and unimaginable loss, and we ask that Keeleigh’s family, friends and teachers are given the time, space and respect needed to come to terms with this tragedy."

It's being reported she was trying to stop her dog from chasing a rabbit.

In a statement from police, a spokesperson told Greatest Hits Radio: "Police were informed by the Coastguard at around 4.40pm on Friday afternoon that the body of a woman had been recovered from the beach near Hope Cove.

"An 18-year-old woman was reported to have fallen from the cliff and was confirmed deceased at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious and enquiries are continuing."

Her next of kin have been told.
