Passengers in Cornwall and Devon are being warned to expect disruption to trains today after flooding at Totnes railway station has forced services to be cancelled.

Any Great Western Railway services travelling west from Totnes have been severely disrupted.

A spokesperson from GWR said: "Due to heavy rain flooding the railway between Totnes and Plymouth all lines are closed.

"Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised".

"Disruption is expected until 10:00, 01/01"

"We are unable to source rail replacement services between these stations, and no trains will run until tomorrow morning.

"Customers are advised not to travel or to attempt to travel into/out of Devon and Cornwall today. Tickets booked for today can be used tomorrow instead".

The disruption comes as industrial strikes throughout the month have caused a shortage of rail services throughout the month.

Great Western Railway have issued a warning to passengers for the remainder of the day to "only travel if absolutely necessary".
