A woman has been jailed for causing death by dangerous driving in Abingdon.
Courtney Goodwin-Diliberto, aged 24, of Aldiss Drive, Kingston Bagpuize, was sentenced on Tuesday (20 May) to five years in prison, following a six day trial at Oxford Crown Court
She was found guilty, by unanimous jury, of one count of causing death by dangerous driving, at the same court, on Monday 10 March. Goodwin-Diliberto was also disqualified from driving for five and half years and will have to take an extended re-test to get her licence back.
On 28 April 2022, Goodwin-Diliberto, who had passed her driving test four months previously, was driving dangerously on the A415 Faringdon Road approaching Kingston Bagpuize. A motorcycle, which had been travelling with her, then overtook her car.
The motorcyclist was approaching a bend in the road at the time and was involved in a collision with a lorry that was traveling in the opposite direction.
The rider of the motorcycle, a man in his twenties, died at the scene.
Lead investigating officer Philip Hanham, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I would firstly like to express my condolences to the family of the man who sadly lost his life in this tragic collision.
“Courtney Goodwin-Diliberto had only held her driving licence for four months before the collision. Her actions fell far below those of a competent, careful driver and show the devastation caused when driving dangerously.”
“Dangerous driving can have severe consequences and I hope this court result shows how seriously we at Thames Valley Police take such crimes.”
