Oxfordshire's wildlife trust is warning a wetter, warmer and 'unpredictable' climate could cause some species to become extinct in its nature reserves.

The Berks, Bucks & Oxfon Wildlife Trust's latest survey's revealed some 'winners and losers' in 2024 - with the dormouse struggling to adapt to changing conditions.

They say nature needs to be 'put into recovery' … so species can spread out to wider parts of the countryside, to ensure their survival.

They did add though that some species of bats and barn owls are thriving.

BBOWT’s Senior Ecologist, Colin Williams, said:

“It is heartening to know, despite a difficult year, that this year’s Reserves Surveying Programme has revealed many encouraging wildlife highlights from our nature reserves.

"All of this is testament to the fantastic work of our nature reserve volunteers and work parties, wildlife trainees and staff.”
