Ukrainian Education Centre opens at Westgate Library in Oxford
This new centre is the third of its kind in the UK, following similar successes in London and Chichester
A new Ukrainian Education Centre has officially been launched at the Westgate Library in Oxford, providing educational and cultural support to Ukrainians in the UK.
Over 120 people attended the opening event, which was organised with the help of Oxfordshire County Council’s Business and Intellectual Property Centre.
Those in attendance included representatives from academia, local government, and the business sector, alongside members of the Ukrainian community.
The ceremony began with speeches from Yevgenia Zhyryakova, Head of the Ukrainian Education Centre in the UK, and Alla Skrynnikova, Head of the Oxford branch.
Councillor Neil Fawcett, Cabinet Member for Community and Corporate Services at Oxfordshire County Council, said:
“The opening of the Ukrainian Education Centre in Oxford is testament to the strength and spirit of our Ukrainian communities in the county and the power of education to bring people together.
“It’s inspiring to see such a vibrant initiative take root in our city. We’re proud to support a space that fosters learning, cultural exchange and resilience.”
Guests also heard from figures such as Professor Lord Tarasenko of the University of Oxford, Dr Nadiya Ivanenko, Dr Serhiy Savytskyi, and Paddy Harris. Ukrainian musicians gave a musical performance to conclude the event.
This new centre is the third of its kind in the UK, following similar successes in London and Chichester. It is part of a global network of 84 hubs that provide support to Ukrainian communities in regions across Europe, North America, and Asia.
The Oxford centre plans to host further events and activities throughout the year to build on its mission of empowerment and cultural connection for Ukrainians in Oxfordshire and beyond.
