The 31 year old was found was found unresponsive in his home in Athens earlier this week.
Tributes have been paid overnight to former Oxford and Sheffield United defender George Baldock.
England played Greece last night, with Greece celebrating their goals with a nod to the black arm bands they were wearing and raising a shirt with Baldock 2 on it in his memory.
The 31-year-old played for the national team.
His family confirmed yesterday he had drowned at his Athens home. He started his career at MK Dons, and played twice on loan for his childhood club Oxford United. Baldock was a fan favourite and a key player in their 2016 promotion.
A sea of flowers and shirts have been left at the home of Sheffield United, Bramall Lane in tribute.
A statement from Greece's Ministry of Citizen Protection released on Thursday read:
"A preliminary investigation has been carried out by the Attica Security Directorate.
"A forensic pathologist was called to the scene and examined the body with no evidence of criminal activity.
"In addition, the police searched the house to determine if there are any traces of a burglary, with a negative result.
"Also, a specialised team of the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Police carried out a check at the house in order to exclude the possibility of criminal activity."
Baldock's family said in a statement they were "in shock at this terrible loss" and called for the media to respect their privacy.
