A teenage boy has been stabbed in an incident in Banbury, Thames Valley Police have said.

Officers were alerted to an incident taking place on Ruscote Arcade in Banbury in the late hours of Friday (February 14th).

Police say that between 11pm on Friday and 12:30am on Saturday morning (February 15th), the victim had been in a park area when he was approached by three unknown men.

During the altercation, one of the unknown men stabbed the victim in the back before running away, whilst the teenager looked for medical help.

The victim was eventually seen by medical professionals for treatment to a small stab wound to his lower back, which has been deemed neither life-threatening nor life-changing.

According to the force, all three suspects were men, with one having his face covered by a balaclava. A second man was seen riding a bike in the incident.

Speaking on the incident, Detective Inspector Lorna Briggs from Thames Valley Police said: "I am conscious that this is a second incident involving a stabbing in the last seven days in the town.

“Although there is no evidence as yet to suggest that the incident is linked to a previous stabbing in Princess Diana Park last Monday, we are, naturally, keeping an open mind as to this possibility.

"We will be stepping up patrols and the public will see an increased presence of officers in the area in the coming days.

"I appreciate that incidents such as these two will cause concern in our local community, but I would like to assure the public that we are investigating both incidents thoroughly.

"No arrests have been made at this stage, and so I would appeal to anybody who has any information about this latest incident to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police."

Those who may have any information in regard to the incident can get in touch by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 43250076994.
