Rising river levels causing flooding issues in Oxfordshire

High river levels have led to road closures and flood barriers being installed.

Heavy rainfall has lead to high river levels with flood warnings in place across Oxfordshire. Nationally over 300 warnings are in place.

In Oxford barriers have been put in place to protect homes in South Hinksey. River levels are rising on the River Thames and the watercourses around Oxford, including the Bulstake Stream as a result of heavy rainfall. Areas most at risk are properties on Botley Road, and the roads off Botley Road in New Botley.

With warnings as well for Wolvercote the River Stert at Abingdon and Chalgrove and Stadhampton.

There are issues on the A34 due to flooding. It's closed is closed Northbound between A423 Hinksey Hill and the A44 Peartree Roundabout.

We're being reminded not to drive though flood water.

Last night Thames Valley Police in South Oxfordshire and Vale of the White Horse advised people to reconsider travel due to flooded roads.

Meanwhile Thames Valley Police announced it's referred itself to the watchdog.
