Police make hundreds of arrests for driving offences
The force made more than 300 arrests last month for drink and/or drug driving
Thames Valley Police made more than 300 arrests last month for drink and/or drug driving.
The force also issued nearly 700 tickets for speeding offences, people using a mobile phone while driving and people not wearing their seatbelts.
It’s part of a national campaign, named Operation Spotlight, which aims to make our roads safer by reducing the number of people who are killed or seriously injured.
Thames Valley Roads Policing Unit, alongside other forces across the country, have been focusing activity on the fatal four offences; speeding, drink and drug driving, mobile phone use and failing to wear a seatbelt.
Statistics for July:
163 arrests for people for drink driving
165 arrests for people for drug driving
337 tickets issued for speeding offences
76 tickets issued for being on a mobile phone while driving
277 tickets issued to people not wearing their seatbelts
Detective Chief Inspector Justin Thomas, Head of the Roads Policing Unit for Thames Valley said, “The figures during last months’ operation are tragically clear. These fatal four offences ruin lives every year and they are avoidable.
“If you commit any of these offences, you are increasing the likelihood of killing or seriously injuring not only yourself but others.
“We want everyone to be safe on our roads, please think twice and remind others to do the same, call them out.”
