Police are appealing for information as a man died in a vehicle fire

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following an unexplained death in Chipping Norton.

At just after 8am on Sunday May 12th, officers were called to an incident where a silver Volkswagen Transporter van was on fire outside the Greedy Goose on the A436 at the junction with the A44.

The fire was extinguished by Oxfordshire Fire & Rescue Service, but tragically, a man, aged 55, who was in the van died at the scene.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Mark Personius of Cherwell & West Oxfordshire CID said:

“We are investigating this tragic unexplained death, which occurred early on Sunday morning.

“At this stage, we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances and do not believe any other vehicle was involved.

“Although formal identification has not yet taken place, we have notified the man’s next of kin and they are being offered support at this very difficult time.

“I am appealing to anybody who was in the area on Sunday morning between 6.30am and 8.30am who may have witnessed this incident to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police."
