Police in Oxfordshire are appealing for witnesses to an assault in Banbury.

It happened on Thursday evening between 9.30pm and 11pm in Evenlode.

Thames Valley Police say a group of people approached two men - with a man from the group assaulting one of the men, aged in his forties, and tried to stab him.

The victim suffered an injury to his back. It is not known if he required hospital treatment.

The offender is described as an Asian man in his late twenties or early thirties, of stocky build and around 6ft tall. He also had a well-kept black beard, around medium length. He was wearing a black tracksuit with a white stripe down the sleeve and trousers with white socks pulled up quite high.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Sam Buzzard, of the Priority Crime Team, based at Banbury police station, said: “I am appealing for witnesses to this assault to please come forward."
