Oxford United fans have something to cheer about this week, as the Secretary of State for Housing and Local Government has announced he will not be calling in the stadium application for further review.

This decision paves the way for Cherwell District Council to give the final go-ahead, meaning the dream of a new stadium is closer than ever.

In a joint statement Anneliese Dodds, the MP for Oxford East and Sean Woodcock, the MP for Banbury said: “We’re delighted to see that the Secretary of State has not called in this application. It’s a huge boost for everyone involved. We hope the stadium can now go ahead as speedily as possible.”

Advocates for the club have been actively campaigning, raising the issue directly with the Secretary of State.

The proposed new stadium is seen as not just essential for Oxford United and its loyal fans, but also as a vital asset for the local economy. “The new stadium is needed not only for the sake of Oxford United and its many fans but also for the local economy,” the joint statement added.
