Oxford United fan confident club will stay up after January transfer deals
The transfer window closes at 11pm tonight
An Oxford United fans is confident that the club will stay in the Championship thanks to the five signings made so far in the transfer window.
The U’s made completed their first deal of the window by signing Ole Romeny from FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie for what is believed to be a record fee for the club.
'We're a little short of an old-fashioned number nine'
They went on to sign midfielder Alex Matos on loan from Chelsea, centre back Michal Helik from Huddersfield Town, striker Tom Bradshaw from Millwall, and Stan Mills from Everton.
It’s reported that across the Championship, teams have spent more than £70m in the window.
Simon Hathaway, from the Fence End Podcast, said: “I think we've really put ourselves in a good position now to make ourselves safe, hopefully well before the end of the season.”
He added: " I think we might see one or two go out and that might then open up loan positions.
“I still think we're a little short and maybe of a proper old-fashioned number nine and that might depend on players going out and another movement around the division.”
All clubs across England have until 11 o'clock tonight to make any last-minute changes to boost their squad before the January transfer window closes.
However, the times may vary if they are looking to strike a deal with clubs in Europe as France closes at 22:00 GMT, Germany 17:00 GMT, Italy 19:00 GMT – whilst Spain remains the same time as England at 23:00 GMT.
Mr Hathaway said: “As long as we can keep the players that we want to keep, maybe sell those that aren't playing or are on the fringes, and if it stops now in terms of signings and outgoings then it's been a decent window.”
