Two people have been taken to hospital, after being exposed to chemicals at the Randolph Hotel spa on Beaumont St in Oxford, the fire service has said.
The alarm was activated just after 1:00pm today, and Oxfordshire County Council's fire and rescue service raced to the scene.
South Central Ambulance Service took two people who experienced breathing difficulties to the John Radcliffe Hospital to be treated for chemical exposure.
Staff and hotel guests were briefly evacuated as a precaution, with fire crews responding to a small chemical incident within the spa area, the fire service said.
By 3:30pm, the hotel was fully reopened, and those who had been evacuated were able to return.
The Randolph Hotel, a 150-year-old gothic building, is well known for appearing in the popular TV series Inspector Morse.
It underwent a £6.5 million refurbishment after a significant fire damaged three of its floors in 2015.
There was also a more minor fire in the basement there last December.
