The event will take place in June

June 7th event will see Oxford Pride being held in South Park for the very first time with the Greatest Showman Circus theme.

Organiser, Rob Jordan said: “We contemplated moving to University Parks and that just didn’t work due to funding. So, we spoke with the events team at the council and they said, ‘why don’t you put in an application to host the event at South Park’.”

"We can continually grow"

The event was first held in 2003 and used to be hosted in the Oxford Castle Quarter, but it is now moving to the biggest green space in the city.

Mr Jordan said: “Nearly ten years we’ve been at Oxford Castle Quarter and we have outgrown that space which is a good problem to have and we can’t get any bigger in that space because we can’t physically move the walls.”

“South Park is obviously so much bigger, and it gives us the years to expand. So, whilst me might not use all of the space in our first year, we can continually grow which is great news”, says Rob.

South Park hosts many events throughout the year, such as the November fireworks display which has criticised in the past for damage left to the park.

Mr Jordan says they're taking this into consideration: “There are contingencies in place for wet weather.

“We would have a road down if it was going to be raining. Vehicle movement is absolutely limited for setting up and taking down so there won’t be any vehicles on site and we’re only using a smaller part of the park itself.”

The event will remain free, but people are encouraged to make donations.
