Oxford fireworks event won't have a bonfire
The Round Table event in November has been given a permit to go ahead with new safety measures in place, after complaints of damage to South Park.
The annual firework event in Oxford's South Park will go ahead this year.
Oxford City Council has issued an event permit for this year’s display, organised by Oxford Round Table. It follows a thorough consultation process with Oxford Preservation Trust and the Friends of South Park group, after complaints of damage to the park after last years event.
Following the consultation, additional safety measures will be in place to protect the ground at South Park, including the use of the temporary roadway (aluminium tracking) both under the funfair and for vehicle access.
The city council also say there will be strict controls on vehicle access to ensure only essential event and emergency vehicles are permitted to enter.
This year's event will also not include a bonfire, further reducing the potential for ground damage.
The Council has also published a clear cancellation protocol on its website, which will be followed if adverse weather or other safety concerns arise. The protocol prioritises public safety and the protection of public spaces, providing clear criteria for when an event should be modified, postponed, or cancelled.
Decisions are based on factors such as severe weather warnings from the Met Office, ground conditions, and the ability to implement effective mitigation measures.
The Oxford Fireworks event is scheduled to take place on Saturday 2nd November, with tickets available from the Round Table website.
