A murder investigation has been launched by Thames Valley Police's Major Crime Unit after a death in Harwell.

Police were called to an address in The Park at around 9:35pm yesterday (Tuesday 27 January), where a 64-year-old woman died at the scene.

The coroner has been informed, but the victim has not yet been formally identified.

A 41-year-old man from Oxfordshire has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody. The victim is known to him.

A scene watch is in place at the address.

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Alice Broad, of the Major Crime Unit, said:

“We understand this murder will be of concern to the community but we do not believe there is any threat to the wider public.

“We are in the early stages of a complex investigation but we are following several lines of enquiry to establish the full circumstances around the murder.

“Members of the public are likely to see an increased police presence in the area while we investigate and we would advise anyone with any concerns to please speak to one of our uniformed officers.”

Anyone with information is urged to come forward in order to support police with their investigations.
