Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit has launched a murder investigation following an incident in Garsington on Sunday, December 15th.

Officers were called by South Central Ambulance Service just after 10pm as the victim, a man aged in his seventies, was found with a serious head injury at a property on Oxford Road.

He was taken to hospital for treatment, but sadly has now died of his injuries.

The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Another man, aged 40 from Garsington, was originally arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and for am assault on a police officer. He has now been further arrested on suspicion of murder.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Alice Broad, of the Major Crime Unit, said:

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim at this extremely distressing time.

“We are still in the very early stages of this investigation and have made an arrest in connection with this incident.

“I understand that incidents such as this are tragic events and I recognise the concern this will cause in the local community. However, we are confident that there is no wider risk to the community and that the victim and offender are known to each other.

“There is a scene-watch in place at the address while the investigation continues.

“This is likely to remain in place for some time, and I would urge anybody who has any concerns to please speak to any of our officers at the scene.

“I would also ask anybody who believes that they may have any information that may assist this investigation to contact Thames Valley Police by calling us on 101 or reporting online, quoting reference 43240606678."
