Man seriously injured in Banbury attack

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses, to a serious assault in Banbury.

At approximately 3.15am on Saturday (6/9), a nineteen-year-old man was found collapsed on the floor by Banbury Town Hall, High Street, after being assaulted by a group of people.

The assault took place close to the bandstand on High Street and continued around the Town Hall onto Market Place.

The victim sustained serious injuries including a broken nose, two black eyes, a fractured skull, swelling and complete loss of hearing in his left ear. He was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

As part of an investigation, officers are appealing for a number of specific witnesses to come forward, who they believe may have seen what happened or have information to assist inquiries.

These witnesses include a woman who the victim took a photo with at around 3am on George Street, two men who appeared to be walking along High Street as the assault was taking place and the occupants of a dark coloured Ford Fiesta, which drove past the pedestrian area on High Street leading onto Broad Street.

Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Matthew Leney, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed this assault or anyone who may have information that could assist our investigation to please get in touch.

“I am also appealing to the female who took a selfie with the victim prior to the assault, the two male members of public mentioned and the driver of the dark-coloured Ford Fiesta.

“Footage can be uploaded to our dedicated online portal and anyone with information can call 101 or make an online report via our website, quoting reference number 43250462472.
