Following an investigation by Thames Valley Police, a man has been jailed for a theft of a motor vehicle and other offences in Didcot.

Tiago Sequeira, aged 30, of Port Holme Close, Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire, pleaded guilty to one count each of theft of a motor vehicle, use of a motor vehicle on a road without third party insurance and possession of an offensive weapon at Oxford Crown Court on Friday 19th April.

He was sentenced to a year and nine months’ imprisonment at the same hearing.

At around 3.45am on 2 December last year, Sequeira stole a Range Rover without having the keys from a property in Lisa Head Avenue. He drove the vehicle to Cambridge where the car was located by police, only two hours after it was stolen.

Sequeira was arrested and he was in possession of a Stanley knife in his pocket. He was also in possession of equipment used in keyless theft of motor vehicles.

He was charged the following day.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Fiona Boyce, part of the South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse Priority Crime Team, said: “Catching the perpetrators who steal vehicles without keys is a challenge due to the sophisticated lengths that offenders go to in order to commit their crime.

“On this occasion, through excellent cross-border police work, Sequeira was located driving the vehicle hours after it was stolen. This was a fantastic result and has ensured that justice has prevailed.

“I would like to thank our colleagues in Cambridgeshire Constabulary who assisted in apprehending Sequeira and helping us putting him before the courts to face justice.

“This investigation and subsequent conviction shows that Thames Valley Police are committed to fighting acquisitive crime, serving victims and making our communities safer.”
