A man has been jailed for burglary and other offences in Oxford after an investigation by Thames Valley Police.

Steve Austin, aged 56, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to three years and four months in prison on Tuesday (12/8) at Oxford Crown Court following a two-day trial.

At around 10am on Friday 7 February 2025, Austin attempted to break into a property in Headington. On the same day, he gained entry to a different property in Headington, stealing items to the value of £14,500.

Austin pleaded guilty to one count of attempted burglary dwelling with intent to steal and one count of burglary dwelling and theft.

Investigating officer, DC Katie Derrick, of the Priority Crime Team in Oxford said: “I’m really pleased to see Steve Austin given this custodial sentence as it highlights that this type of behaviour is a route to prison.

“We fully recognise the emotional and financial toll that burglary inflicts on victims, and we remain committed to thoroughly investigating all reported offences to bring perpetrators to justice.

“This outcome should offer reassurance to our communities that Thames Valley Police will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of the region.”
