Driver arrested on suspicion of immigration offences after police investigation

Thames Valley Police stopped a lorry on the M40 near Bicester following reports of several people travelling in the back of the vehicle.

Thirteen people were detained, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of immigration offences yesterday (11th December).

Police said the vehicle was intercepted between junctions 9 and 10 after a call was received at 9.53am alerting them to the unusual activity.

Officers are now working closely with the Home Office as part of their investigation.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “We received a report yesterday (11th December) at 9.53am of a number of people in the back of a lorry travelling on the M40 between junctions 9 and 10.

“The vehicle was stopped and 13 people were detained. The driver was arrested on suspicion of immigration offences.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we are working closely with our partners in the Home Office.”
