Police are looking for an intruder in possession of what could have been a 'sawn off shotgun' in Witney in the early hours of yesterday morning (29 December).

Officers say the aggravated burglary happened at a house on Corn Street, when he searched for cash before threatening the woman inside.

The incident happened at around 5am, when the offender forced entry into the property with a 'sort of firearm' before leaving on a bicycle with no saddle a number of minutes later.

The offender, wearing a mask, tracksuit bottoms, a red hooded top, and trainers, headed in the direction of Corn Street, and then down an alleyway on Welch Way.

It's been confirmed that the victim was not injured and no property was taken.

It's also believed the offender may have also been carrying a shovel, which was used to gain access to the house.

Senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector James Holden-White, said: “This was a concerning incident where a woman has been threatened in her own home.

“We believe that this was not a random incident and do not believe there was any danger to the wider public.

“However we are carrying out a thorough investigation and members of the public will see an increased police presence.

“We are asking anyone with witness information or anyone who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage that could assist our enquiry to please come forward.

“You can provide information by calling 101 or through our online pages and quoting reference 43230579971.

“Or if you do not wish to speak to the police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers who will take your information 100% anonymously. You can call them on 0800 555 111.”
