It was because he was unhappy about a jacket potato

A "far-right sympathiser", who was jailed for a terror offence, threatened to shoot a prison officer in the head because his lunch did not comply with his dietary requirements, a court has heard.

A jury was told Nicholas Brock, who was serving a prison sentence at HMP Bullingdon for possessing information likely to be useful to a terrorist, became angry after a prison officer failed to hear his complaint over a jacket potato he was served.

He then allegedly told another member of prison staff, as he was being encouraged back to his cell, "I will put a 9mm to the back of his head.

"Don't think I won't do it.

"I'm getting out in eight months and that prick is on my list."

The 57-year-old is on trial at Oxford Crown Court, accused of making threats to kill prison staff on two occasions - first to the prison officer Christopher English on May 20 2024, then to a probation officer on October 9 2024.

Prison officer Oliver Kelly, to whom Brock allegedly made the threatening comments about Mr English, told the court on Tuesday: "Mr Brock would get quite angry if there was something wrong with his food.

"He has dietary requirements and sometimes the kitchen makes mistakes.

"He would complain about this to the senior prison officer, Mr Christopher English.

"But at the time, as we are trying to control 180 prisoners to get their lunch, Mr English didn't have time to speak to Mr Brock and that made Mr Brock angry."

Mr English also gave evidence on Tuesday, telling the jury: "Mr Brock does have a very strong issue with jacket potatoes."

Prosecutor Emma Gargitter, opening the trial, claimed the threats were credible because Mr Brock claimed he owned deactivated firearms and "knew people who could reactivate them".

She further told jurors the defendant was "a sympathiser of the ideology of the far-right, the extreme right-wing" and was also hostile towards his assigned probation officer Saiqa Yasmin "in part because of her race".

Ms Gargitter told the jury: "He believed Saiqa Yasmin had been placed to provoke him, saying she was 'Asian persuasion'."

On October 9 2024, the court heard he complained to another probation officer that Ms Yasmin "would not let him do anything after release", and that she was being racist towards him.

When the probation officer told him she would inquire about his concerns, he allegedly asked: "Are you going to shoot her?"

Brock is also said to have threatened to endanger the lives of prison staff at HMP Bullingdon by releasing their personal details.

"He was disappointed when in April 2024 he was told he would not be getting parole," Ms Gargitter told the jury.

"He blamed the police for preventing his release."

Brock, whom jurors heard was convicted of the terrorist offence in 2021, denies all charges.

Before he discharged the jury for the day, judge Nigel Daly told the court: "I'm really curious to know what was wrong about the jacket potato."

The trial continues.
