Football banning order after criminal damage at Kassam stadium
It happened around 8pm on Friday 18 April.
A football banning order has been secured following an incident of criminal damage at the Kassam stadium.
Richard Woodhead, aged 44, of Hunsworth Lane, Cleackheaton, Kirklees, was sentenced on Monday at Oxford Magistrates’ Court to a 12-month community order, ordered to pay compensation and costs totalling over £700, as well as being issued with a five-year football banning order.
Woodhead previously pleaded guilty to one count of criminal damage at a hearing at the same court on 26 June this year.
At approximately 8pm on Friday 18 April, during the Oxford United v Leeds United match, Woodhead deliberately broke a window on a supporters’ coach, causing around £500 worth of damage.
Woodhead was arrested the same day and was charged via postal requisition on 5 June.
Dedicated Football Officer, PC Alex Locke, said: “This kind of behaviour has no place in football. Football banning orders are a vital tool in helping us prevent disorder and protect genuine supporters.
“Football banning orders not only restrict supporters convicted of football-related offences from watching the team they follow but also apply to all regulated football matches in the United Kingdom and some international matches and tournaments as well.
“We apply for these orders where appropriate, and they send a clear message that criminal behaviour at matches will not be tolerated.
“We will continue to take firm action against those who commit offences, ensuring football remains a safe and welcoming environment for all.”
