Rail passengers in Oxfordshire are being warned their journeys will take "considerably longer than usual" as a five-day closure of a major train route begins.

Engineering works are taking place on the lines from Oxford and Bicester, to Leamington Spa from Saturday 27 until Wednesday 31 July.

Track and bridge renewal, as well as drainage works, are taking place.

Chiltern Railways are urging people to leave plenty of time for their journeys, with rail replacement buses running.

The operator says their trains are expected to be particularly busy on Saturday and Sunday as the lines between Oxford and Didcot are also closed due to engineering works.
