Emergency services hold ceremony to remember the three lives lost in Bicester fire
Flowers have been laid by a number of emergency services in a ceremony at Garth Park
A ceremony has been held at Garth Park to remember the three people who were killed at the tragic fire at Bicester Motion last Thursday.
Firefighters, Jennie Logan and Martyn as well as local business owner Dave Chester sadly lost their lives in the blaze.
"We are profoundly grateful for their bravery"
Chief Fire Officers from Berkshire and Buckinghamshire joined Rob MacDougal, Oxfordshire’s Chief to lay flowers at the memorial.
The ceremony took place last night at around 7pm, where other emergency services were also in attendance, including Thames Valley Police, London Fire Brigade, South Central Ambulance and Thames Valley Air Ambulance.
Fire crews across the UK have also paid tribute with a minute’s silence at 6.39pm, marking exactly one week after the first crew were called to the incident at Bicester Motion.
Following the tributes, Daniel Geoghegan, CEO of Bicester Motion, said: "It is only in adversity that we experience the true strength and meaning of community.
“Over the past seven days we have been deeply moved by the support & kindness shown by the many communities connected to Bicester Motion – here in Bicester, across the UK & around the world. It has brought strength, comfort and a sense of solidarity at a time of profound loss.
“Above all, we are thinking of Jennie Logan, Martyn Sadler and Dave Chester. Their response to the fire was marked by courage and selflessness. We are profoundly grateful for their bravery.
“They, and their families, remain forever in our thoughts.”
A three minute’s silence will also be held today at Garth Park at 7pm which will be open for the public to attend.
The book of condolence at Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters, Kidlington, closed today (Friday 23 May) at 5pm.
