Fresh tributes have been made to the victims of the Bicester Motion fire, as Oxfordshire County Council confirmed new arrangements for people wishing to pay their respects.
Chief Fire Officer Rob MacDougall visited Garth Park in Bicester on Tuesday 20 May to read tributes laid for firefighter Jennie Logan, firefighter Martyn Sadler, and local businessman Dave Chester. All three died following the incident on Thursday 15 May.
“We are mourning the loss of Jennie Logan, Martyn Sadler and Dave Chester,” Mr MacDougall said. “Their bravery and commitment made a positive impact on those around them.”
The council has renewed its invitation for members of the public to lay flowers in Garth Park instead of fire stations or the Bicester Motion site, to avoid causing any obstruction. The park is open daily from 7.30am to 8pm.
Three books of condolence remain available for the public to sign:
Garth House, Bicester – weekdays, 9am to 7pm
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters, Kidlington – weekdays, 9am to 5pm (until Friday 23 May)
County Hall, Oxford – weekdays, 9am to 5pm (until Friday 30 May)
The council also confirmed that messages left at the park will be protected from expected bad weather, and flowers will be composted “when appropriate”.
Two other firefighters who were injured in the fire remain in hospital. They are conscious and in a stable condition.
Ten fire crews were called to the Bicester Motion site at 18:39 on Thursday 15 May.
