A woman from Oxfordshire who lost her husband to suicide has organised a community walk to help others who have experienced similar losses.

The event called ‘Walk, Talk and Remember’ is taking place today (Sunday 2nd of November) at 5pm at Cutteslowe Park in Oxford.

Mimi Conder

Mimi Conder from Chinnor lost her husband Jason in September 2024 and is wanting to help other people who are bereaved by suicide.

“Losing someone to suicide can feel profoundly isolating. Grief from suicide loss often carries unique challenges, complex emotions, unanswered questions and sometimes social stigma that can make people feel they have nowhere to turn.

“So, events like this acknowledge that isolation and actively work against it by bringing people together in a supportive and understanding environment”, she said.

Ms Conder also hopes to create a community of shared experiences, she said: “When you've lost someone to suicide, connecting with others who've experienced similar losses can be incredibly powerful.

“It creates a community where people get it without lengthy explanations. There's no need to hide complicated feelings. Shared memories can be honoured without fear of judgement.”

Adding: “I'm hoping that this walk will help those bereaved by suicide as it will provide a safe, judgment-free space where people can share memories of their loved ones with others who truly understand the loss.

“Walking together which can be healing in itself, movement and nature combined with companionship, choose their level of engagement whether they want to talk openly or simply be present and listen, feel less alone in their grief journey and find comfort in solidarity without pressure.”
