Blood cancer breakthrough involving Oxford scientists
The study took place at the Institute of Cancer Research
A team involving Oxford scientists has made a drug breakthrough in fighting aggressive forms of blood cancer.
A study has discovered that blocking an enzyme in the body's cells which senses changes in oxygen levels could stop the disease from progressing.
Dr Hannah Lawson who works at the institution of cancer research explained what the study has uncovered:
"The chemotherapies which have been around haven't really changed in the last 30 years.
"We researched a new drug and found, in our systems, this to be very effective.
"The whole process took 7 to 8 years from identifying a novel biological pathway to becoming a drug and producing the compound than can take us into clinical trials."
