Fire-damaged Hangar 79 at Bicester Motion to be demolished
Cherwell District Council has formally issued a demolition notice
Hangar 79 at Bicester Motion is set to be sensitively demolished following extensive fire damage sustained during a tragic incident on 15 May 2025.
After consultations involving Historic England, Cherwell District Council, and teams of expert health and safety, environmental, and structural specialists, a joint decision has been made to dismantle the remaining structure.
Cherwell District Council has formally issued a demolition notice, and a specialist contractor—selected for their experience in managing sensitive projects—will carry out the work.
The demolition is scheduled to begin on 6 August and is expected to take approximately four months.
Officials say the work will be undertaken in accordance with all council requirements, with efforts made to ensure minimal disruption to the surrounding area.
The demolition marks a significant moment in the site’s history, with efforts focused on preserving the heritage and safety of the Bicester Motion development moving forward.
