Thames Valley Police officers investigating the stabbing of a 17-year-old boy at a community event in Blackbird Leys, Oxford, on Sunday (6 April), have made two arrests.

An 18-year-old man from Oxford has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 GBH with intent and possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place.

A 21-year-old man, also from Oxford, has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 GBH with intent.

Both remain in police custody.

The arrests are in connection with an incident in Blackbird Leys Park on Sunday afternoon, in which a boy was stabbed to the face, hands and buttocks.

He was taken to hospital for treatment, and he remains there at this time.

The 18-year-old has been further arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with an earlier incident on 25 March at Fry’s Hill Park, Oxford, in which a 15-year-old boy was slashed in the face, sustaining serious injuries. The victim has since been discharged from hospital.

Following the stabbing on Sunday, a Section 60 stop and search order was enacted, covering the Blackbird Leys and Greater Leys area.

This order will expire at 7.25pm this evening (Tuesday 8 April).

Whilst this order has been in place, a further arrest has been made in the area for an unrelated weapons offence.

Oxfordshire commander Chief Superintendent Ben Clark said: “We are absolutely committed to stamping out violence in our community, and we have now made several arrests.

“Officers will be maintaining an increased presence in the area to continue to deter offenders and to reassure the local community.

“If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to raise these with our officers, and you can also report any concerns to Thames Valley Police in the strictest of confidence by reporting online, calling 101, or anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.”
