Storm Kathleen causing disruption as strong winds hit Northern Ireland
The effects are being felt across the province
Storm Kathleen is bringing strong winds and some damaging gusts as it sweeps across Northern Ireland.
The Met Office issued a yellow wind warning which will stay in place from 9am until 10pm.
It has warned of blustery showers in parts, with strong to gale force southerly winds and possibly severe gales for a time along the Down and Antrim coasts.
Some exposed and coastal areas could see gusts reaching higher speeds of up to 70mph.
John Wylie from the Met Office is urging caution:
"The main areas are basically going to be the whole of Northern Ireland, it's one of those unusual wind situations where windy conditions will be affecting all areas.
"There will be some large waves blowing over coastal areas across the east at times as well, that's something to watch out for so it's probably best to stay away from some of our coasts while those big waves come over the seawall."
He added: "There's always the chance of branches and trees falling which could impact roads and maybe one or two rail lines as well, so a day of potential disruption, unusually so for April and...previous strong winds events during the winter quite a few of those occurred at night, this one will be taking place during the day on Saturday when lots of people tend to be outdoors."
Some flights have been cancelled and the PSNI has issued a warning.
A spokesperson for the force said:
"Storm Kathleen's impact is now being felt throughout Northern Ireland, and we remind road users of the high risk of fallen trees and debris on the on the roads.
Slow down, leave extra time for your journey and exercise caution when out and about."
