Police and the fire service have been at the scene of a reported gas leak in Strabane this morning.

People are being asked to avoid the scene, at Abercorn Square, until further notice.

A PSNI statement said, “Following a report of a gas leak, police are currently in attendance at Abercorn Square, Strabane, assisting with traffic management.”

“Roads in the area are closed to facilitate Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service.”

“The public should avoid the area until further notice.”

A spokesperson from Evolve stated that the incident is completely unrelated to their network. They clarified:

"Following a site visit undertaken by our engineering team, we can confirm the issue is solely related to a bottled gas cylinder and has absolutely no connection to our network in any manner whatsoever."
