All week the atmosphere at the North West 200 has been building in preparation for today’s (Saturday) racing programme.

Practice sessions were held earlier in the week on Wednesday and Thursday.

However, a change to this year’s racing schedule meant three races were held on Thursday evening including the Superbike, SuperSport and Superstock.

It was on the Thursday night that Glenn Irwin secured his ninth successive Superbike race.

The Carrick rider also set a new course record on the second lap at a speed of 125.799mph.

Irwin's victory meant he equalled the all-time wins record in the elite class - alongside the legendary Joey Dunlop and Michael Rutter.

Today (Saturday) thousands of spectators are expected, once again, to flock to Portrush to enjoy one of the biggest sporting spectacles across Northern Ireland.
