A fire at the derelict Railway Hotel in Enniskillen is believed to have been started deliberately.

The blaze broke out early this morning, with more than 40 firefighters involved in the response.

Speaking at the scene NIFRS Group Commander Michael Curran gave an update, “The fire was brought under control this morning at approximately 10 o’clock however there are still pockets of fire within the hotel”.

He said, “At the minute the cause is undetermined however indicators would suggest it is most likely deliberate.”

“We are working with the PSNI to establish the cause of the fire.”

An earlier A PSNI statement said: "Police along with Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) are currently at the scene of an ongoing fire at a derelict hotel at Forthill Street in Enniskillen and are urging the public to avoid the area and seek alternative routes for their journey”.

"Forthill Street is likely to be closed for some time while emergency services deal with this incident."
