Consultants vote in favour of strike action in Northern Ireland
Senior doctors in Northern Ireland will take strike action.
The results of a ballot lasting more than a month will see consultants preparing to participate in a 24-hour walk-out from June 26-27.
The decision is over a long-running pay dispute.
Of those who were balloted, 92% voted for going on strike, according to the British Medical Association. There was a 69% turn-out.
It comes after junior doctors in Northern Ireland took strike action in March for the first time over a pay dispute.
David Farren's the chairman of the Northern Ireland consultants committee with the BMA:
"It was expected and it's good to get such a strong mandate from our members.
"It shows the strength of feeling on this.
"Staffing gaps have been crippling our service - we need to take some sort of action to get this reversed."
