Woman dies after car plunges into River Nene

Police say the 77 year old died at the scene when her red Fiat entered the river in the afternoon of Monday 23rd September.

Northamptonshire Police say a woman's died after her car plunged in the River Nene.

The one vehicle incident happened yesterday afternoon on Rushmere Road in Northampton.

Police officers are appealing for witnesses after a fatal single-vehicle collision

The collision happened yesterday (Monday September 23) sometime between 12.20pm and 4:20pm when, for reasons not yet known, the driver of a red Fiat Panda travelling from the direction of the Barnes Meadow roundabout went off the road and entered the River Nene.

Officers say that sadly, the driver – a 77-year-old woman – died at the scene after the vehicle became submerged in the water.

Police say that stretch of road would have been very busy at that time of day.

They're appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have CCTV or dash cam footage of the collision to get in touch.
