We've been hearing from Northamptonshire's Executive Council member for the Fire Brigade Union in the East Midlands over plans to appoint Nikki Watson, former Deputy Chief Constable of Avon and Somerset Police.

Ms Watson, however, is currently the subject of a complaint being investigated with the IOPC.

A meeting took place on Tuesday 20 February on the issue involving the county’s Police, Fire and Crime Panel.

Adam Taylor of the FBU says:

“There’s a disparity between firefighters and the service’s senior leader, which is unfair, should they seek consideration for the role.

“Government minister Chris Philp MP, the fire inspectorate and the police watchdog should be looking at the governance of the service in Northamptonshire, where we have issues with Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Stephen Mold.”

Panel members are due to make a formal announcement.
