Person dies after being hit by train near Wellingborough

Train services were disrupted after emergency services responded to reports of a casualty on the tracks - the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A person has died after being hit by a train near Wellingborough Railway Station this morning (17 February), causing disruption to services in the area.

British Transport Police said officers were called just before 9.50am.

"Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks just before 9.50am today near Wellingborough Railway Station," a spokesperson said.

"Officers and paramedics attended and sadly a person was pronounced deceased. The incident is not thought to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

East Midlands Railway confirmed the incident and said services were affected.

"Sadly, a person has been hit by a train between Bedford and Kettering," a spokesperson said.

"We have made arrangements with other train operators to help keep you on the move. Your current tickets will be valid via alternative routes."
