Investigation continues after 17-year-old stabbed in Northampton
Detectives say they are working quickly to establish what happened following a stabbing in Abington Street and three people have been arrested in connection with the incident
Detectives in Northampton say they are are working quickly to find out what happened after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed in Abington Street on the evening of Monday, May 19.
The incident took place at about 5.10pm near the junction with Fish Street. The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries but is now in a stable condition.
Three people have been arrested in connection with the stabbing.
A 17-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon. Both remain in police custody. A 16-year-old boy was also arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon, and drug possession. He is receiving medical care but remains under arrest.
Northamptonshire Police said they do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the public.
Chief Superintendent Chris Hillery said: “I understand this incident will cause a lot of concern for people and I would like to offer some reassurance that we don’t believe there is an on-going risk to the public.”
The force added that officers attended the scene quickly and provided first aid to the victim before paramedics arrived. Chief Superintendent Hillery also thanked members of the public who helped at the scene. “Those who went to the aid of the victim and those who contacted us to say they had witnessed the incident, your help has been invaluable,” he said.

Chief Superintendent Hillery said: “Although we have seen a reduction in knife crime in recent years, last night’s incident shows we have much more to do in tackling the issue. We’re working closely with partners including our councils and community groups to use everything available to us to help prevent incidents like this from happening again.”
Northamptonshire Police said the Northampton Neighbourhood Policing Team will be at the Beat Bus in Market Square for the rest of the week to speak to anyone with concerns about knife crime or other matters.
The force urged witnesses or anyone with information, including dash-cam footage, to call Northamptonshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 25000289631.
