A woman from Northampton says she's overwhelmed with peoples generosity after setting up a fundraiser for her brother who had both legs amputated after an incident on the A45 earlier this month.

Father of two Liam Faulkner was helping a broken down car when he ended up caught between two vehicles.

In a police appeal for witness to the incident, Northamptonshire Police say that at about 12.15pm Friday, November 7, the collision occurred involving the driver of a blue Peugeot 2008, a white Volvo truck, a pedestrian, a stationary white Peugeot 3008 and a stationary black Volkswagen Passat.

As a result of the collision, a man in his 30s, who was a pedestrian at the time of the collision, was taken to hospital with serious injuries life changing injuries.

Bethany Witney said up the fundraiser for her brother, after learning doctors had to amputate both his legs:

"You really don't ever think anything like that will happen to you, your family, anyone you even know. I was shopping with my two sisters at the time when my dad rang me and I heard my sisters like screaming in the middle of the shops and I was like, what's going on?"

She says knowing the adjustments her brother will need to make once he lives hospital, the family just wanted to help:

"We're at £5000 as it stands, which is completely unbelievable to us. Times are hard, it's coming up to Christmas, but people are just so giving and, even strangers, people we don't know. It's been overwhelming and he can't believe it.

Bethany says the funds will go towards rehabilitation and physio costs for Liam.

Police confirmed that a 47-year-old man from the Irchester area who was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving has been bailed pending further enquiries.
