Silverstone race track museum has welcomed its 150,000th visitor.

The attraction has drawn motorsport fans from around the world since it opened five years ago, with exhibitions, interactive activities and memorabilia.

Phil Lawrie, CEO of Silverstone Museum, said:

“We are thrilled to welcome our 150,000th visitor in 2024 – reaching this milestone almost two months earlier than in 2023, which reflects the strong growth in visitor traffic witnessed this year.

“This achievement evidences the enduring interest that our public has for motorsport and our commitment to creating a world-class experience for all our visitors. We look forward to welcoming many more fans to share in the history and excitement of the legendary sporting venue that is Silverstone.”

"Britain is to motor racing what Brazil is to football"

Phil Lawrie says the alluring factor of motorsport, and our home nation success, constantly draws people to this area:

"Britain is to motor racing what Brazil is to football, I always say.

"The nation has seen 20 Formula One driver titles, second place is Germany who have amassed 12.

"We've got 7 of the 10 current F1 teams within an hour and half's driving time of Silverstone.

"Let's not forget that it's an industry worth £10bn per year."

Storm Darragh this weekend and other weather events has also effected the museums footfall. Phil says there's a phrase that a little bit of rain is good museums weather however 60 mph winds often see us stay at home.

The museum has around 15,500 educational visits from those ages GCSE level and up, with formal educational programmes.

Phil says they also cherish their informal educational events.

"We have a wonderful tech lab where people can press buttons and pull levers and learn about the components and parts that go into a racing car, even making balloon cars, as they teach our visitors our engineering techniques are applied."
