Restoration of Northampton's oldest pub in its 'final phases'
The Grade II listed Old Black Lion dates back to the 16th Century but hasn't been open to the public for seven years.
Three and a half million pounds of restoration work on Northampton’s oldest pub, the Old Black Lion, is nearly complete.
West Northamptonshire Council says work on the Grade Two listed building, which dates back to the sixteenth century, is I its 'final phases'.
It's been closed to the public for seven years.
Upon its reopening, the pub will be run by Phipps Northampton Brewery Company.
The council have told us: "West Northamptonshire Council is working closely with the Churches Conservation Trust to deliver the final phases of the Old Black Lion project following the completion of the capital phase of works to repair the Grade-II listed building. The Churches Conservation Trust’s national office has recently moved into the building over the summer.
As with any complex scheme, timelines are always subject to change. Indicative dates are used to guide planning, but they naturally fluctuate as work progresses. We’ll continue to keep our communities informed as things develop, and we’re looking forward to celebrating the wider opening with the community in due course."
