A week on from the start of the British Grand Prix a record amount of food donations are still being collected.

Towcester Community Larder have so far collected a record 27 tonnes of food after the weekends event at Northamptonshire's Silverstone race track.

A huge half a million people attended the four day event, which for the past few years have made sure unused food is distributed to locals in need.

Katie Steele is the larders Operations Manager. SHe explains the types of items that are rescued:

"Yesterday we had a lot of eggs, milk, bread, vegetables, salad items, fruit, sandwiches, lunch bags. Lots of variety of food which is brilliant as everybody can find something they like."

Volunteers at Silverstone

Katie says Silverstone has been a huge support. Both in terms of food but also funding for their overheads:

"Silverstone are a brilliant support for us. We work really closely with their sustainability team, they support us with a grant to help with some our vehicle costs. And they obviously try to minus the amount that goes to waste."

Collections will continue until Friday.

Katie says none of their work would happen without their volunteers who she says works so hard to make sure they get every last bit of food they can. She says it's a huge team effort.
