The incident occurred sometime between 7pm on Wednesday, October 15 and 6.50am on Thursday, October 16, on the southbound carriageway of the A43, between Rockingham Road and Junction 7 of the A14.

Police were called at around 8am on Thursday by a member of the public who spotted a man lying in the undergrowth. Emergency services attended, but sadly the man, believed to be in his 40s, had suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are urgently trying to trace the driver involved and are appealing to anyone who may have been travelling in the area to come forward.

“This is a very busy dual carriageway,” said Detective Sergeant Sebastian Greschner.

“We’re keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the incident, or who has dash-cam footage from that stretch of road, even if you didn’t witness anything directly. That footage could still be vital.”

The police are also appealing directly to the driver involved, or anyone who knows who they are, to come forward.

“We need to check on their welfare and understand what happened. Please get in touch if you have any information,” DS Greschner added.
