We’re hearing about Corby’s annual Highland Gathering which takes place this Saturday and Sunday, July 13th and 14th, on Charter Field.

It features pipe bands, dancing and traditional games.

The event's being extended to cover the whole of the weekend as of this year as well.

Organiser Suzanne Lilly told us:

"It stems back to people from Scotland coming down here for the steelworks, which itself traces back to pre war times.

"In 1968 the event started and it's changed over the years, but here we are over 50 years later.

"Last year was very popular, so we decided to try and put on more activities.

"This time we've got together with Hamlyns who are providing the traditional Scottish Oats as we stage the World Porridge Eating Championships.

"It's a contest to see who can eat a bowl of porridge the quickest with heats, a semi-final and a final.

"We just want to build on what happens, put on some more activities and involve all of Corby."
